Biography

Miles Locke, a native of Southeast Texas, was raised in the rural town of East Bernard. After studying percussion for two years with Dr. Sarah Burke and receiving his associate’s degree at Blinn College in Brenham, Miles transferred to Texas Christian University. While there, he studied with Dr. Brian West, Joey Carter, Jeff Hodge, and Dr. Andrew Eldridge.

 

Miles was a member of the TCU Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Percussion Orchestra, Steel Band, and the Horned Frog Marching Band. Miles was member of the Fred Sanford award winning PASIC drumline in 2012. His marching experience also includes summers with Revolution and the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. He has performed in venues such as the Royal School of Music in London, Normandy Beach, and Volterra and Rome, Italy. Miles received his Bachelor of Music Education in December 2015.

 

Miles' compositions and arrangements range from solo percussion, chamber works, marching percussion and more. His works have been featured at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) and received 1st place in the 'small ensemble/bass ensemble' categories in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

 

Miles currently serves as the Assistant Band Director/Percussion Director at Allen High School where he oversees the percussion curriculum for all percussionists grades 6-12. Previously, Miles was the assistant percussion instructor and private lessons teacher at Keller High School, where he worked with distinguished percussion educator, Frank Chapple. In his spare time, Miles enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and their cats, "Cat" and Zuko.
