Scott Joplin was an important musical figure at the turn of the 20th century. He helped give birth to the music of ragtime. Ragtime is known for it's syncopated rhythms, catchy melodies, and overall "dance-ability." As people discovered this new phenomena, it quickly gained popularity and began to spread across the entire United States.

Joplin's most famous rag was the "Maple Leaf Rag" written in 1899. After his new found success with Maple Leaf, Joplin began writing many more tunes in the same style. "Peacherine Rag" was one of the compositions to immediately follow, being written in 1901.

This arrangement is for a standard steel band comprised of leads, double tenors, double seconds, guitars, cellos, tenor bass, bass, and drum set. The tune follows one of the typical rag forms of AABBACCDD. In true rag style, the highs have the syncopated and agile melody, while the lows keep everything connected with the "Oom Pah" bass pattern. The tune also holds true to the original keys of Eb, Bb, and Ab.
